LOOK, DRAW AND BUILD @ THE GAZEBO
Look, Draw and Build @ the Gazebo is a creative learning programme for schools and communities that uses the Caversham Court Gardens Gazebo to inform and inspire primary school children. Key Stage One students will attend a half-day workshop at the Caversham Court Gardens Gazebo looking for clues to understand how houses are designed and built and considering the ways in which people use space.
During the visits, teachers and children will take a collaborative approach to explore architectural themes including scale, structure, materials, drawing and building. This fascinating journey of exploration and discovery around the Gazebo will show how architecture can be used to teach a variety of subjects that link to the curriculum.

We are Going on a Shape Hunt!
The children will take a shape-hunt walk around the Gazebo, using viewfinders, so they can recognise the shapes seen on the walk.
Close your Eyes
The children will touch the Gazebo building materials, feeling and describing their texture, shape, weight and temperature.
A Room with a View
The children will look through the Gazebo windows, using a diamond shape cardboard frame, so they can describe and draw (using a marker on a transparency sheet) what they can see through it.
The Vitruvian Man
The children will investigate how big is the Gazebo compared to them, becoming ‘human rulers’ in order to measure the perimeter of the walls.
Let’s Build!
The children will build their own structure, using a set of slotted cards illustrated with the Gazebo plans and photographs.
